“I’m not techy — I just can’t do all this digital stuff.”
— What we hear from clients, every week

We hear this all the time. And we understand. MTD sounds complicated — but here’s the truth:
Making Tax Digital doesn’t mean YOU have to become digital.
It means your tax records must be submitted digitally.
That’s what we’re here for. You carry on as normal.

What is Making Tax Digital?

MTD for Income Tax is HMRC’s new system. From April 2026, sole traders and landlords must send quarterly updates instead of just one annual tax return.

📅

April 2026 — it starts

If your income from self-employment or property is over £50,000, you must comply from April 2026. Lower thresholds follow in 2027.

📊

4 quarterly updates per year

Instead of one annual Self Assessment, you’ll submit income and expense summaries every 3 months — plus a year-end finalisation.

💻

“Digital” = already sorted

HMRC requires digital records and digital submission. We take care of that. You don’t need any software at all — just send us your documents.

📋

Who is affected?

Sole traders, freelancers, and landlords in the UK. Limited company directors are not affected by this particular change.

Nothing changes on your end.
We handle every digital submission.

HMRC requires digital records — but they don’t care who keeps them. We use bridging software to convert your documents into compliant quarterly submissions. Your spreadsheets, your paperwork, your routine — all completely unchanged.

Three simple steps — that’s it

You don’t install anything. You don’t learn anything new. You just send us your documents — the same way you’d send an email.

1

You send us your documents

Bank statements, invoices, receipts — monthly or quarterly. By email, WhatsApp, or post. Whatever works for you.

No apps required

2

We do the numbers

We record your income and expenses using our software. No need for you to understand any of it — that’s what we’re here for.

We use bridging software

3

We submit to HMRC

Every quarter, we send your compliant digital update to HMRC. You’ll get a confirmation and that’s it — done.

Quarterly + year-end SA

What actually changes for you

Spoiler: not much. The biggest difference is simply how often you drop us your paperwork.

Answers to your MTD questions

Do I really need to do anything differently?
The only practical change for you is sending your documents quarterly rather than once a year. Everything else — the software, the HMRC submissions, the tax calculations — is handled entirely by us. You don’t need any new apps, accounts, or technical knowledge.

What documents do I need to send you?
Typically your bank statements and any invoices or receipts for business expenses. For landlords, rental income records and mortgage/maintenance costs. You can send these by email, WhatsApp, or even post — whatever is easiest for you. You don’t need to organise or categorise them; we do that.

Do I still need to file a Self Assessment at the end of the year?
Yes — there’s still a year-end finalisation (which replaces the current Self Assessment). The good news is that it’s already included in all our MTD packages. We handle it all, and because your records are up to date throughout the year, there’s no last-minute rush in January.

What is bridging software?
Bridging software is a tool that takes your income and expense data (from a spreadsheet or our records) and converts it into the format HMRC requires for MTD submissions. We use it on your behalf — you don’t need to know anything about it or use it yourself. It means you can keep your existing routine and we handle the digital compliance side completely.

When does MTD for Income Tax start?
MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD ITSA) starts in April 2026 for those with income over £50,000. The £30,000 threshold kicks in from April 2027, and £20,000 from April 2028. The sooner you get set up, the less stressful the transition will be.

What if I miss a quarterly deadline?
HMRC has a penalty system for late MTD submissions. We’ll send you reminders well in advance so we’re never scrambling. As long as you send us your documents within a reasonable time, we’ll handle your submission before the deadline.

Can you help me if I’m already using accounting software?
Absolutely. If you’re already on Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks, or another platform, we can work with that too. But if you’re not, there’s no need to start — our bridging approach works just as well and keeps things simple for you.
